THE BATTERY

This project is about integration; It seeks to integrate all aspects of city life into a unified environment; apartments, offices, shopping, child care provision, sports facilities, cultural institutions and a mosque.
1) The 1st task was to explore and redesign several facades within the multiple Buildings with varied programs.
Due to the formal and programmatic complexity of the project, we researched and explored facades over multiple building typologies - Housing, Hotel, Mosque, Offices, Library, Retail.
2) The 2nd task within the Battery Project was, thereafter, the refinement of the Mosque Geometry, Program and Facade.
The main Geometry of the Mosque is generated towards the Five main Muslim Praying Times.
According to these orientations, a brick pattern was explored, each facade with one brick orientation, as well as openings between the bricks allowing light to get in during the 5 specific times of each Praying.

- -
ORIENTED BRICK FACADE
Independently of the variable geometry, the orientation of the brick is maintained within the same facade.
This is built parametrically, negotiating the geometry with each specific praying orientation.

- -
INTERIOR
In the interior of the Mosque, the columns become lamps, and vice-versa.
This same element is defined parametrically, becoming smaller (lamps) in congregation areas, and structure in other spaces.
