TOKYO ISLAND

The design for the Tokyo Island, for the master plan The World in Dubai, requested a resort program – apartment units to be rented.
From a demanded number of units and a limited height level, the design optimized the by doubling the island platform, generating a second island surface that contains residential and commercial program.
This secondary surface, that thickens and becomes thinner according to commercial program, works as a meshwork of circulations and visibility towards the sea, either on top of it or underneath. The system is defined through a radial display, ruling the generation of the apartment units, which are expelled from the island surface, in-between the circulation and visibility paths.
This same circulation ruling system defines the extensions oversea of the island itself. Answering for a different typology of dwellings requested (inserted within the water), the same system defines and establishes these relations and connections as a whole, unifying different programs and accessibilities.
